CURACAO BY Marty Riske
It all started way too early, meeting at the airport at 4:00 a.m. (the chickens don’t even start that
early!). Metro Airport was high security, but we breezed through like a group of old pros. The
flights were uneventful, which was very welcome. Leaving Michigan’s cold winter in the morning
and being in sunshine and the mid-80’s by afternoon-you just know this is
going to be a great
week. And, after the first shore dive in front of Habitat Curacao, John came up with the comment
that he had just seen it all and didn’t think there was any more that could be seen. Of course, we
soon found out there was so much more to see: Sea Horses-6 on one dive, 2 on another; Green
and Spotted Morays; Octopus, Flounder, Squid, a Frog Fish and so much more.
Days started out in the mid-70’s with morning dives, and by 3:00 you might
just have to take a
siesta. That’s just so you are ready for the night dive. Days were rounded out by iguana feeding
on the wall, beautiful sunsets, and no one will forget Big Daddy’s account of “Rex” the very
large Green Moray eating dinner at close range! Susanne, we are still working on your golf cart
limo.
Curacao offers many exciting diving opportunities and is always an adventure. This was a great
group to vacation with and we all look forward to seeing each other again soon.
