COSTA RICA by John & Marty Kendall
Fourteen hardy souls conquered Costa Rica, a country of diverse beauty matched by the warmth of the friendly natives. Weawoke on our balconies of the hillside resort overlooking the breathtaking view of Playa de hermosa resort along the Pacific Ocean. The boat diving by day with a special trip to the Catalina Islands yielded white-tip sharks, 20 ft wide manta rays, blue and orange starfish, and schools of eagle rays and tropical fish. There were many wonderful sunsets over the ocean. The land excursions began with horse back riding at the Los Inocentes Lodge in the temperate region near the Nigaragian border. We clip clopped across streams while observing monkeys and their babies cavorting above us. Our guides then escorted us to a treetop canopy tour wherein we slid and rappelled some 100 ft above the jungle floor. Afterwards we relaxed in the hot springs at the base of the active volcano named Arenal. Our last day was highlighted by a white water rafting
trip where the still of the wilderness was interrupted by the shrills and screams of combat amongst the three battling rafts. There will be many memories of diving and vacation splendor in perhaps one of the most pristine countries on earth.
